"When you read, you begin with..."

'La leçon de lecture' by Léon-Augustin L’hermitte
It may not be a good idea to swipe something from another writer's fiction, but borrowing an idea from another blogger can have very happy results. I'm not sure where the idea of the A-Z challenge originated, but I appropriated it from Rachel Heffington. So far as I understand it, most bloggers challenge themselves to write posts about one of their works in progress, on topics ranging from A to Z. But I've decided to give it a twist of my own. I don't have a work in progress that would fit the bill at the moment, so I'm going to write posts on A to Z topics that have to do with writing historical fiction in general.

(I'll gladly admit, at the present moment I haven't the faintest idea what X or Z will be. Fantasy authors have it a bit easier there, since they get to make up their own words and topics.)

I'm going to aim for an A-Z post about every couple of weeks. That way I'll have a little time and space to think them out, and they won't take over my whole blogging schedule. Look for something beginning with A sometime next week!

One of my goodreads friends liked one of your blog posts so I came to check it out. Your X and Z comment made me curious, so I pulled out my "Writers Guide to Everyday Life" series and here's what I found.

X-ray (invented in 1895)
Zorro's Back Whip (Movie serial in 1944)
Zeros (Japanese airplanes in WWII)
Zoot Suit (fashionable men's suit in the 1940s)

Not sure any of those would be helpful. But I had fun looking for them. I'm really enjoying your series so far.
